Our trip to China in 2009

Our trip began with flights from Florida to Texas to California to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a beautiful city that for many years was ruled by Great Brittain. In the 1990's Hong Kong was returned to China. The city has a large number of citizens in a small space, so many buildings are very tall. The city features excellent harbors and for many years has attracted large numbers of tourists and foreign visitors.

Here is a view of the city from one of its highest points.

Boat People in Hong Kong

One of the popular tourist attractions is found in the harbor. For many decaades there has been a group of people that prefer to live on boats. In the past they mostly made thier livings by fishing, but now many of them take tourists on these very old boats to see where the "boat people" live. I believe the boats are called sampans.

From Hong Kong we flew into Guilin. This picture is taken from the airport. It seems that the palm tree is a kind of symbol for Guilin. We saw stainless steel "palm trees" on the roads leading into and out of Guilin.
